Is every composite door the same?
To look at them, you could easily think that, but they’re not. The average depth of a standard composite door is 44mm and it typically contains a foam filling. Generally lightweight, it will also feature a GRP colour skin (also known as fibreglass).
A Solid Core composite door is considerably thicker, with a depth of about 48mm. Manufactured using many laminated layers of timber, it’s way more durable and rugged than a foam filled composite door. The UPVC skin it has makes it easy to colour match the design with your door frame.
Composite doors can vary in price, depending on what you’re buying – speak to an advisor for expert help on composite doors.
Can I have different colours on either side of the door frame?
That should be achievable if you believe that having one colour on the outside of the door and a separate colour on the inside of the door is the best solution. In the past, we have finished doors in red externally and white internally, as an example. Lots of other colour combinations can also work.

Reach out to an advisor if you’d like to ask a question about our doors. Have a look to see if our common questions have the relevant answer you need.
How many keys will I receive?
All doors bought from Trent Valley Windows come with 3 keys as standard – let us know if you need more when ordering the door or get in touch if you need further keys cut later down the line.
Can I have a key that works for both doors? (Suited)
We can sort that out for you if you tell the advisor when you are at the point of placing an order. This suited key will be compatible with both doors to make your life easier.
What is the purpose of Secured by Design?
Secured by Design was set up in 1989 as a response to increasing crime levels in the UK with the aim of improving the security of buildings so that people can feel safer in them.
The Police Preferred Specification – SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – is the formally recognised standard for home improvement products that can minimise criminal acts. Domestic windows and doors, and their components, fall into this category.
Conservatory Outlet, the sister manufacturing company of Trent Valley Windows, has SBD membership, so virtually our entire product range satisfies the SBD standard. Outline any concerns about home security with a Trent Valley Windows advisor.
What is a 3-star rated door barrel?
It’s currently the highest rated door cylinder available in the UK and in testing it has demonstrated extreme security. Our door cylinders all contain unique snap-secure technology and a lockdown mode to eliminate any possible breaking of or damage to the barrel.
Can I completely fold back a French door?
That can be done if it has an egress hinge. With this, you can fully fold it back and get the best possible garden view from inside.
Shall I buy bi-folding doors or a sliding patio door?
That’s a tough decision if you have an aperture to accommodate either product, as they’ll both provide a fantastic opening, ideal during the summer months. A key feature of a bi-folding door is that you can open it fully as it will concertina at one end. Although a sliding patio door doesn’t give you that option, it does have a very slim profile, so your outdoor view will be spectacular whether it’s open or closed. Assess the benefits of both doors with your advisor.
